I saw this BEST eye Doctor in the US for eye surgery

I remember I really didn't care for him much!!  My dad and this doctor did a lot lot of talking about me??? That Doctor Poked me so very much???   I really didn't under stand just what was going to happened to me but I do remember that this doctor and my dad talked A LOT ABOUT NO SIGHT COULD BE EVER BROUGHT TO THAT BAD EYE!  The whole thing was SO SCARY FOR ME!!

When it came time for me to have surgery I was a trouper tho!!
This surgery was going to ( or they all hoped ) that my bad eye would look like it was normal!!!  If I looked to the right with my good eye the bad eye would do that too even tho it would not be seething any thing-- it would look like it was.  That was going to be a tall order b/c it had never been done before!!  This was in 1941.  It was a gamble!!!  A gamble for my dad and me and for the doctor!!!
I was in the hospital for 6 weeks!!!  I loved it there!!  I got feed 3 meals a  day!!!  I had never been fed 3 times a day before!!!
My mom and dad slept all day long most days, b/c my Dad played piano till 3 am in night clubs!!!

I had bandages on my eyes for 6 weeks!!!
But finally the day came to take them off!!

I hope you have a great week-end!!  We plane to!!

More to come next week ....

love coming your way, Fern

  4. Wow, just imagine if you were having that same surgery today!

That's too bad you didn't have 3 meals a day when you were growing up.

Sorry I don't stop by more often. School, work, an internship, and homework keep me very busy.

  5. Medicine and surgical care has come a long way. I'm glad you shared that, Fern. It made me think back to when I had my tonsils out at age 10 (1954) and the ether mask being put on my face.

  12. you were a hero and this doctor too. it must be not easy for a little girl to bear such a surgery. I'm glad you liked the time in the hospital, think that's helpful for a recovery.
