Amanda part 2--- Sad

Amanda had been put in the dog shows and she won her championship!!!  The lady who breed her, showed her, was going to take her further in the show world but the day she got her championship she got her tail caught and broke in the van door!!!  Poor Amanda!!!
She came to me in the late  summer of 91.  By cooler weather she started to have seizures !!!!  Scared me to death!!!  I took her to 4 vets here in the city. We got two different seizure medication neither worked!!! They did lots of test on her. There was a time she had 2 or 3  a day  and it wore us out, both she and I!!  In 92 I got sick and poor baby had to wait for me to be able to get up and help her!!
In 93 we took her to Gainesville  where they have the best veterinary
hospital in Florida.  We were there 3 days with her while they spent  over 3,000 of our dollars.  They never found out what was really causing her seizures.  They did find out that she had a rare form of anemia.  She was not getting the good out of her food!  They said she never would and they suggested we put her down with this anemia and the seizures!!  No way was I going to put her down!! I felt like as long as she was alive she needed some one who cared and loved her so much!!!  No matter what!. I started to cook for her and she did do a little better.  She got fat and she was very happy when she wasn't having a seizure!! As the time went by she did start having less  tho!!! By the end of her life she had not had one in almost 2 years!!! We walked and we played and we loved together for 7 whole years and that old kidney failure got her in the end!!
She was very expensive of us to keep but I would have given her my kidney if I could have!!!  I love my dogs with all my heart!!!

Love coming your way, Zoie & Fern

  4. Hi Fern, we know that that $3000 was hard earned and it must have felt like it was $30,000 for you and Tom. So we really do believe that you would have gladly given her your kidney and whatever else if it would have helped. You and Tom are decent people who ought to be admired for the way you two have stayed together and loved each other. The dogs who have come your way are the lucky ones. You're a good soul Fern.

  5. Fern, that is a most wonderful story. Your little Amanda had the best life possible because of you and Tom. You should be proud of yourselves cause it must have been hard at times but you put Amanda first. What a lucky girl she was. No worries, and love, Carol (and Stella and Rory)

  6. hi Fern,

I'm glad the storm spared you guys. It is hot and miserable here today and will be through the weekend. We should get some rain Monday - hope it cools down. I really hate hot, humid weather.

    1. That is normally what an animal does --bring joy to our lives!!! They usually give so much love to there rescuer. I have rescued cats and dogs most of my life and have had only one dog not appreciate it!!!
All cats have!!! Happy is still going strong at age 21 to 23 years old!!! Who knew a cat could live this long??????
Tiger made 17 and a half, we thought that was special...

  13. Hi again, I just read your reply, that is horrible. Is there anything they can do or can you get a magnifying screen. My step dad is going blind and it is just horrible. He doesn't read anymore and he use to be an advid reader. It's just so sad.
I have been so busy at work its crazy!! I'm lucky though, so I'm not complaining!!! I'll keep good thoughts going your way!
