Zoie killed a coon

Happy week-end friends!!!  I should say HOT week-end.  I think most of us are hot now, yes???
I have to tell you something.  Something I am not happy about!!  Zoie killed a coon yesterday in the strawberry garden.  We had known that there was a larger  animal eating our berries.  Larger then a squirrel or a rabbit.  We figured it was a coon but really didn't worry to much for that coon. Zoie can't go out at night except with me --no more just staying out at night. Yesterday we were making soup and Zoie was laying on the floor keeping me company when all of a sudden she jumped up and ran to the door wanting out BAD!!!!  It was 3:30 pm.  I let her out and then heard a yap and looked out and saw her running with something in her mouth.  I couldn't tell what it was from in the house.  Later I went out and saw what it was!!!!  A young raccoon.  One of this year's baby.  I have not seen the babies well enough  to tell who's who.  So I don't know how is missing a baby!!!  That baby didn't know the rules yet-- you don't go into the yard !!!!!  EVER!!!!  I am so sorry for that baby!!!! She was just hungry!!!

I don't know how many mistakes I have made in this post and I am not going back over it to try to see b/c everything is way to blurry!!!  I wish I could see !!!!
Love coming your way, Zoie & Fern

  2. Don't fret too much. You have tried your best and can't control nature sometimes. It's sad, but sometimes nature is very sad. Sorry you had to go through this because you try so very hard to keep peace among all the critters.

  4. I know you feel bad. But Zoie was doing what come natural to us Wiems. And raccoons can be very dangerous for us dogs. Sounds like Zoie did not get hurt though.

    1. Zoie didn't get hurt at all. That poor baby didn't know what hit her and it over so fast. She was just eating away and then she was gone.

    1. That coon is now planted under a hot pepper!! She will make wonderful food for the garden. No that I want any more of that kind of food but we use what we have.

  12. Hi Fern, poor baby coon but that's life sometimes. Zoie was just doing what dogs do when they have the chance. Take care. No worries, and love, Stella and Rory

  13. Hey Zoie!
Wow, you are a super, stealthy huntress! I know your Mom is sad for the critter, but deep down she's proud of you too. Very good work and maybe the Momma Raccoon will teach her babies now and everyone else will be safer.

    1. I don;'t know why that Mama coon didn't keep her baby out of the yard. They have been keeping them out for years. Maybe something happened to the Mama and it was just plain hungry!!! She was a cute little girl coon.

  14. I'm so sorry about the baby raccoon, even while knowing that that's Zoie's job...to keep you safe from intruders. Sounds like there are a lot of kritters out there that she needs to save you and Tom from!
