Tinker is a biter and a digger

Hi all, Yes Tinker is a biter and a digger and I don't know which she likes the best!!! Both seem to be very important to her!!!
She loves to bite sticks!!
She loves to dig holes. As you all suggested she now has two places in the yard she is allowed to dig. BUT --- she is digging other places when you are not looking!!!
She loves to bite me!!!!!!!! This morning on our walk she wanted to bite me!!!!!!!!!!!! I wouldn't let her so she bit herself--- she bit her tail and she bit her back leg!!! AGAIN & AGAIN!!!!!!

Tomatoes-- we are still getting some from the garden every once in a while. We have had so little this year I only put up one batch of tomatoes this hole season. It has been too hot and too dry this summer for the garden to do good!!!

Love coming your way, Tinker & Fern

  1. Think of it as her as a rebellious teen. It will pass...meanwhile, grit your teeth and try not to lose your sanity! LOL.

  3. Tinker sounds like Ivy!! She loves to dig up things and she has almost cleaned our garden out of pepper except for the very, very hot ones.

  8. Oh, Tinker! I know it's Most Difficult but try to remember that humans are waaaaay more delicate than we are and we have to be gentle with them. You'll get LOTS more treatsies that way, I promise.

  9. Hey Fern...Im so,so sorry for your loss of Bambi. I've really been busy this summer with my house and AT&T is forcing my husband into retirement so that has added a lot of stress to our lives right now. I was just so sad to read about Bambi. Im really sorry that she didn't make it. You were a great Human mommy to her and she was very Blessed to have you.
What about Happy? How is she doing? My thoughts and prayers are with you and I hope you are enjoying your new dog Tinker.

  11. Hi Fern, I'm glad that you're back. We were really worried. Tinker will take some time to learn that she cannot go and bite you. My mom said that you should reward good behavior (either a treat or a click using a clicker and then a treat). Here's a link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15vKqCSNhqY
We can send you a clicker if you'd like. Just send us an e-mail (mydogsam01@gmail.com with an address that you'd like my dad to send it to. Maybe use Tom's shop address

  12. Daddies and I go through the same issues, I don't bite when I'm walking but I love picking up sticks, and bark, and digging, but I have my sandpit and I try only to dig in there, and my daddies will let me carry sticks sometimes because then I stop getting distracted.

    It's a puppy thing :)

  14. Hi Fern, it sure is hard work with a pup. We sympathise with you. Biting sticks is fine, biting you not so good. What if you carry treats and try a little sit, stay etc and give treat when she tries to bite? Might distract her from wanting to eat you. I also heard if they bite, yell out really really loud. Supposed to be some kind of pack thing that happened when they were playing with litter mates. Apparently they will stop if they feel they are hurting you. Also turn your back and walk away and ignore them. Hang in there. No worries, and love, Carol (and Stella and Rory)
