Tinker has a Dr Jekyll//Mr. Hyde personality!!! At first she just bite me in her version of puppy, bitie face, play which is in itself bad enough. Then she started to first try to bite me when I was stopping her from doing a bad thing like digging under the fence to get out. Then she actually did bite me and draw blood doing it when trying to stop her from getting out of the fence. That was enough Tom was MAD to say the least!!!!!! Tom said that was enough she gos back to the rescue.
That would not have been enough for me if that was the only problem. There was another problem and that I thought more serious . She was getting out the last 3 weeks and being gone out there alone in the world!!!!
That was not something I could let her do!!! Much too dangerous. You,, out there had said tie her up out in the 2 and a half acres of fenced in land of trees and foliage. I wish I could have but that was not possible to do. I have lived in this fence 36 years with 7 dogs and she was the only one who dig out and left!!!!!! Other rescues had loved it so much here that you could leave the gate wide open and they would never leave!!!
Tinker really was not running away b/c she always came back within a hour. If that would have kept up sooner or later she would have found the road out there!!!!! There was no way I could keep her in the fence and that is why she had to go back to the rescue girls. She left Friday afternoon about 4:15 pm!!! It has broken my heart!!!!! I miss her so.
Love coming your way, only Fern and Happy

Our hearts are breaking for you because we know how much you loved Tinker, Fern. She would have had the best home with you but it wasn't meant to be and getting hit by a car would have been horrible. We feel that you absolutely did the right thing for you and your family.
ReplyDeleteWe love you!
Maggie, Mitch and Sue
You know how I feel about this...it was the best thing for both you and Tinker.
ReplyDeleteThere is another doggie (an older doggie) who needs a good home, with someone just like you!
Sending you a big hug, Girlfriend!

Thanks again for the funny card for D's birthday!
I am sorry about Tinker Fern but I was getting worried about your safety with her. I know your heart is broken but there is a lost pup out there that is just perfect for you and waiting to find you.
ReplyDeleteWarm hugs to you Fern. Gail, Mistaya and Maggie
I'm so sorry to hear that Tinker had to go back to the rescue. It would be horrible if she had found the road and gotten hit so I can understand your reason for returning her, though it must break your heart to do so.
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to be a responsible pet parent, but that's what you are. Paws crossed that Tinker lands in the right spot for her and that THE right dog comes your way.

Oh Fern. I know this is so hard for you. Clearly Tinker was not the right fit for you and Tom. She may need more activity and you may need another retired greyhound... Just sayin'. We totally think you did the right thing. She needs to get where she's going while she's still young, and you need a more mature doggie!

Hi there Fern, My heart goes out to you in this situation but I know she will find someone who can meet those needs of hers. You can't have a dog biting you and running away-just too much. I don't think all young dogs are like this! I know there is the perfect dog for you out there.
ReplyDeleteHugs today. Noreen & Reggie
Fern, try not to fret so much about Tinker. She just wasn't a good fit for you. Biting is serious, and getting out of the fence is worse because she could bite someone while she is out there, cause trouble or get hit. I think the rescue did you a big disservice in not helping you find a dog that was more suitable for YOU. They had to have known about her biting! Anyway, go online to search out a breed that you might like then check for a rescue group for that breed. There are a lot of yorkie rescue groups, pugs, and greyhounds that are in need of a good home like yours.

I know it was a hard decision, but I think it was the right one. You gave it more than a try, and you did everything you could to make it work out. Somewhere there is a better fit for Tinker and a better dog for you.
ReplyDeleteOh Fern, that must have been a very difficult decision for you. Obviously poor Tinker has a lot of issues and may need extra help with a specialist or therapy worker. You tried your very best but when your own safety is at risk (and hers when she escaped) you made the right decision. My vet said to me once that people can have mental illness so why can't dogs and I totally agree with her. Take care. You did the right thing Fern. No worries (cause we are all behind you) and love, Carol (and Stella and Rory)
ReplyDeleteI had a feeling that Tinker was too much dog for you from the beginning. There are a lot of senior dogs out there that really need a home and would probably be a good fit for you. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteHi Fern, you already know how we feel about the whole thing. There are no winners here, everyone loses - Tinker, the Rescue folks and you. What people don't know is that for well over two months, you loved, tried to train and work with a very active dog that bit you to the point of drawing blood. The bruising must have been bad too. But I'm willing to bet, that, in your heart or hearts, that you would have kept that dog but the escaping out the yard was the last straw. That's a pretty active expressway near your home that an active dog could easily reach. We cry with you and for Tinker too. It's okay Fern. You did your best.
ReplyDeleteOh Fern, I am so sorry to hear about Tinker! :(
ReplyDeleteYou didn't do anything wrong, she is just not the fit for you. Don't be hard on yourself; you love her and did what you think is best.
I know there is a sweet doggie out there that is just waiting for you.
Oh, Fern, so sorry to hear about Tinker, but I agree with what everyone else said. You asked for a small quiet dog and that's not what the rescue brought you. You tried very hard to make the best of it, but she was just not a good fit. It's not worth you getting hurt. I hope you find the right dog soon, I know you miss having one.

Fern,
ReplyDeleteSo Sorry to hear this. It sounds like you made the right choice though, Tinker wasnt a good fit for you and Tom. There is the right dog for yall out there, dont give up!
