The garden

Our garden is still producing even tho our yellow summer squash is done.. We still have butternut squash happily growing away!! Tom planted more butternut squash over the weekend. He also tilled a strip for radishes, Swiss chard, beets, garlic. We tried to grow beets last year and they didn't do well. Our Swiss chard did good and we only got a few radishes. We really have never tried to grow garlic before but we are going to try this fall. It is fun to have a garden and see what will be successful and what will not be. It makes you want to try again!!!
I wish we didn't have so many trees. We would grow a lot more stuff if we had more sun.
Love coming your way, Bambi & Fern

  1. Well, Fern, you are going to have to book a flight to New Hampshire and stay with us for a few days so you can give us on-site gardening lessons because my fiance's gardening experiment did not work out as well as he hoped and we could use your expertise. Seriously, your garden is wonderful and obviously you know how to get the results!
Thanks for your kind comment about Bo, the schauzer who left us unexpectedly, and I appreciate your thoughts.

  2. Our Mom has no luck with a garden. We enjoyed seeing yours. Hope you get lots more veggies in the weeks to come.

  3. Fern-
Our garden was a let down this year. It just never got really warm here. Nobody in Portland has tomatoes yet(just cherry tomatoes!)
We did have luck with the cool weather stuff, lettuce, radishes and peas. Wish we could grow hot peppers like you!!

  9. Sounds like the garden did well, considering the heat and lack of rain.

  12. Mom loves gardening too and I love deconstructing it (wait til' you see what I did). Lovely garden. We have too many trees also and a very cool summer, so things didn't do very well. Oh, well, there's always next year.

  14. I hope one day to move toward the country or at least the outlying skirts of the city so I may plant some vegies. Nothing like homegrown fresh squash if you ask me. Time to transplant some trees I think, eh? :) Tammy

  18. Hi Fern,

I'm always in awe of people with green thumbs. We did, however, raise a fairly good tomato crop this year - considering - and have harvested a lot of jalapenos.

    Have a great evening.
