My Dad

My Dad was born with hardly any eye sight and then about 10 years old he lost what little he had!!!
He was totally blind until he was  15 then just one day he could see again--- not well but he could see.
My Dad had no education.  He could not see well enough for any school that his parents could afford.  To pass the time away he taught his-self how to play the piano by ear.  He ended up making his living for the rest of his life playing the piano....  He went to work at 15 years old.  His Dad would take him to work and  someone from the restaurant would bring him home late at night.
My Dad passed his problem on to me.  I have had 2 surgeries to correct the look of my eyes but they could not fix the sight.  I had great sight if you look at my Dad tho.. I have had pretty good sight in one eye most of my life.  It has only been the computer that has made the problems.
Not being able to drive--I am here all day long-- 5 days a week and you are my company!!!
Now I am losing that!!
I love you all out there!!!!  Wish I could read your blogs!!!
Hugs,  Fern

  5. Your dad sounds like an extraordinary man to have made his way even if he could not see. You are a lot like him. As the others said, don't worry about our blogs. You just keep writing and we will be here for visits.

  6. Hi Fern, I know we've talked briefly about vision problems. I'm pretty sure you know my sight is very bad. Have you tried a screen reader like JAWS or Window Eyes? I believe there are some free screen reading programs out there, too. If you want, I can look those up for you if you tell me what kind of computer you have. The screen readers take a little time to get used to, but they all use key strokes to navigate around the screen instead of having to use the mouse. They are incredibly useful and improve the quality of life for many visually impaired and totally blind people.

Please e-mail me if you ever want to talk: fureverywhere [at] gmail [dot] com. You are not alone in this, chica. I care.

  7. Hi Fern, your dad was amazing to learn the piano and use it to earn his living. You are definitely like him in that you don't give up easily. Keep on blogging to us if you can. We love hearing about your life and animals. Rest when you need to. Don't worry about reading ours. We'll always come to visit you. No worries, and love, Carol (and Stella and Rory).
P.S. Rory has started walking again. A bit wobbly, but walking. Hurray!!
